Year 6 Leavers' services at Newport Cathedral
Almost 550 Year 6 pupils from all 15 primary schools across the Diocese of Monmouth gathered at Newport Cathedral to celebrate an important milestone as they prepared to leave primary school and begin the next stage of their educational journey.

Held over two days, the special Leavers' Services gave pupils the opportunity to reflect on their time at primary school, give thanks for all they had achieved, pray for the future, and celebrate together through music, singing and dancing

The services were led by Archbishop Cherry, who acknowledged that while moving to secondary school is an exciting adventure, it can also bring feelings of anxiety, sadness and uncertainty that may be "bubbling" beneath the surface. She reminded pupils of the moment when Jesus appeared to his disciples after his resurrection. Frightened and uncertain, they were greeted with the reassuring words, "Peace be with you." Through these words, Jesus offered them comfort, courage and hope, reminding them that they did not need to be afraid.

As a lasting reminder of this message, every pupil received a leather bookmark engraved with the words "Peace be with you – Tangnefedd i chwi."
The services were filled with heartfelt moments as pupils reflected on treasured memories of school trips, friendships, overcoming challenges and the support of their teachers. The atmosphere was one of joy and celebration, with the iSingPOP team leading energetic songs and dances that had the cathedral ringing with music and laughter.
Clare Werrett, Head of Education for the Diocese of Monmouth, said:"It was a joy to be part of these celebrations and to see the cathedral filled with children singing, dancing and reflecting on their time at primary school. We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved and wish them every blessing as they begin this exciting new chapter."
We send all of our Year 6 leavers into this next chapter with our love, prayers and every blessing for the future.
