Whether you’re offering assemblies, lunch clubs, or something else, start by finding the right person, office staff can point you in the right direction. Remember, school staff are incredibly busy, so if you don’t hear back straight away, don’t be discouraged. A gentle follow-up shows commitment without pressure.

Start with Listening
When you make contact, lead with a question: “How can we help you?” Offering support rather than a fixed programme opens the door to meaningful collaboration, and often to unexpected opportunities. Relationships are at the heart of this work. Be friendly, polite, and genuinely interested in everyone you meet. Even when plans change, keep smiling and stay gracious. Trust takes time, and every positive interaction matters.

Make It Easy for Schools
Offer to prepare permission slips, create flyers, and even provide photocopies, budgets are tight, and your help will be appreciated. Always check materials with staff and be ready to adapt to their guidance.

Be Warmly Invitational
Share simple, clear invitations to church life, but choose wisely. Highlight events that feel like natural entry points for families, such as seasonal services or community gatherings. These moments provide a safe and welcoming way for new families to discover who you are.

Focus on People, Not Buildings
Remember: community is built through relationships, not spaces. Many families may feel unfamiliar with church buildings, but everyone understands kindness and connection. This is not about getting the families in church but meeting the families where they are at and building church for them. Start there and let everything else grow from that foundation.
