Bishop

‘Bishop’ comes from the Greek word for ‘overseer’. So a bishop is a senior Christian minister authorised to have oversight for God’s people. As well as duties given to deacons and priests, bishops confirm and ordain.

‘Priest’ comes from the Greek word for ‘elder’. Priests in the Church in Wales are those authorised specifically to proclaim forgiveness of sins, preside at the Eucharist and bless God’s people, as well as other responsibilities.

New role for RE teacher Revd Matthew Sellers

We are delighted to announce that Bishop Cherry has appointed the Revd Matt Sellers as Vicar in the Mountain and Marsh Ministry Area.

He is currently a non-stipendiary priest in Newport North West Ministry Area as well a full time RE teacher in St Teilo’s Church in Wales Secondary School in Cardiff.

Matt will initially be Licensed as a non-stipendiary Vicar on 28th April while continuing in his teaching post until the summer. In September he will become a full time Vicar in the ministry area.
