Ecumenical and Interfaith Officer appointed

We are delighted to announce that the Bishop of Monmouth has appointed Revd Canon Andrew Lightbown as Ecumenical and Interfaith Officer for the diocese.

Andrew was installed as Canon Residentiary at Newport Cathedral last year and will represent the Diocese of Monmouth as part of The Ecumenical and Interfaith Officers’ Network (EION), convened by the Church in Wales.

Speaking about his appointment, he said: “I am delighted to be appointed to this role. For the church to prosper, thrive, and serve its communities it is important that all people of goodwill, from across the denominational and faith spectrum, pull together, work together, and pray together. The diocese has a rich religious history, and the time feels right to honour our past, encourage each other in the present, and move forward together with respect, as we seek to serve the communities to which we have all been called.”

The bulk of the work is within the diocese itself with the main focus being on ‘grass roots’ work within the various local contexts. As a Cathedral Canon, Andrew’s first task will be to develop links in the city of Newport. Attending meetings of the EION will provide updates on more provincial matters and our work with ecumenical and interfaith partners here in Wales and across the world.
