Bishop

‘Bishop’ comes from the Greek word for ‘overseer’. So a bishop is a senior Christian minister authorised to have oversight for God’s people. As well as duties given to deacons and priests, bishops confirm and ordain.

Diocese

‘Diocese’ refers to the geographical territory in which a bishop exercises oversight. The Church in Wales is divided into six dioceses each with its own cathedral in which is housed the cathedra (the bishop’s ‘chair’ or ‘throne’).

Bishop Cherry sends a special message to all our Yr6 leavers

We are conscious that our Year 6 pupils are having a very different type of transition experience this year. We were deeply disappointed to be unable to have our Diocesan Leavers’ Services which are usually a festival of worship and celebration and a highlight of our year.

However, we have done something else instead! We’ve sent our diocesan leavers’ gifts in parcels to each school along with a video message from Bishop Cherry. Each child will receive a small olive wood cross on cord as a reminder of how much God loves them and how much they are valued as part of God’s family within our diocese.

We know that our schools are exploring innovative and meaningful ways to celebrate this important time in Year 6s lives and look forward to hearing how Bishop Cherry’s message and our diocesan gifts are being incorporated into those plans.
