Archdeacon of Newport to retire

Archdeacon Jonathan Williams will be retiring from full-time stipendiary ministry on the 31st July after nearly 40 years of ordained service. Almost all of this has been in the Diocese of Monmouth. Jonathan has been Archdeacon since September 2012, having served in various roles in Cwmbran, Marshfield and Bassaleg before that. He has been Bishop Cherry’s Chaplain since 2021.
Jonathan has also contributed significantly to the wider life of the Church in Wales, serving on many of its Boards and Committees including the Governing Body, Standing Committee, Representative Body and a number of Electoral Colleges.
A Farewell Service to give thanks for Jonathan’s ministry and service amongst us will be held in Newport Cathedral at 4pm on Sunday 6th July 2025.
