Job Title: Archbishop of Wales’s Public Affairs Advisor
Salary: Grade E - £39,904 per annum
Location: 2 Callaghan Square, Cardiff with regular travel to Newport
Contract: Permanent
Reporting to: The Archbishop of Wales/Director of Mission and Strategy
Hours of Work: Full time (34.75 hours per week)
The archbishop is elected from amongst the six serving diocesan bishops in Wales. The most recent election was in July this year when the current Bishop of Monmouth was elected as archbishop. She continues to serve as Bishop of Monmouth and is supported by an Executive Assistant, a Chaplain and a Public Affairs Advisor.
The essence of the role is to ensure that the archbishop is kept fully briefed on public affairs and is supported with briefing papers, speech writing on occasion and arranging and staffing meetings with national and local government.
We have an exciting opportunity for the Archbishop’s Public Affairs Advisor. This role will be responsible for their day-to-day work to the Archbishop of Wales. For matters relating to their employment, they will report to the Director of Mission and Strategy of the Representative Body.
Essential
- A track record in a role which has involved public affairs support for a senior national figure or national organisation
- Strong and proven organisational skills
- Ability to work under pressure and be proactive when time is less pressured
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
- A commitment to excellence
- A degree or able to demonstrate a similar level of achievement
- An empathy with the mission and ministry of the Church in Wales
Desirable
- An understanding of the Church in Wales, the role of its bishops and its governance structures.
- Experience of using SharePoint as a file repository system
- An understanding of the purpose and structures of the Church in Wales
- Ability to write and speak Welsh fluently
- An empathy with the mission and ministry of the Church in Wales.
