Testimony - Revd Dawn Lindsay

"God has always been part of my life, even without a churchgoing family. Childhood prayers and teenage Sundays deepened my faith. Life got busy, but finding St Dyfrigs felt like coming home. After years of encouragement and a profound experience, I followed God’s call to ordination. My faith gives me strength, peace, and purpose—it’s my foundation every step of the way."
I cannot remember a time when God was not in my life. This is odd as I grew up in a family where no-one went to Church, or where faith was even discussed! I went to a secular Primary school and it was there I learned about this man in the sky called God, and that he loved me very much. I remember saying my prayers avidly every single night from when I was around 5 years of age – and I have never stopped!
As a teenager I enjoyed staying overnight with my best friend, Helen. Her family went to Church and it meant that I went with them on Sundays – which I absolutely loved. I also attended a youth group within a church, but was always sneaking upstairs to the main Church for a quiet moment alone with God.
Life then became busy with the usual demands of a husband and 3 children, and although I never stopped believing or praying, God rather took a back seat in my day to day life. However when the children were a little older I felt very much called to finding somewhere I could worship regularly. Through a series of circumstances I found myself in St Dyfrigs, Llanrumney one Sunday morning, and as soon as I walked in I knew 100% I was home.
St Dyfrigs then became my church family for over 20 years. During my time there I felt God’s pull to something ‘more’ becoming stronger and the congregation were encouraging me to explore too. After a profound experience one Sunday morning I could ignore God no longer and so the journey towards Ordination started!
Having a Christian faith helps me find strength, peace, and purpose in everyday life. It reminds me that I am never alone, even in difficult times, because I trust in God's presence and guidance. My faith encourages me to love others, forgive freely, and live with hope, knowing that there is a greater plan for my life. It gives me a foundation to stand on when the world feels uncertain, and it fills my heart with gratitude and joy for the blessings I have.
