Congratulations to five musicians from the diocese presented with The Archbishop of Wales’ Award for Church Music at Newport Cathedral.The award recognises and pays tribute to the talents and devoted service of musicians across the province.Emlyn Powell, Jenny Newman, Selwyn Morgan, Iris Tunley and Thelma Cantelo were each presented with an award by Archbishop of Wales, the Most Reverend Cherry Vann, for long and faithful service in their churches.Emlyn Powell –In appreciation of your long service as full-time organist in Caerwent for over 30 years, for organising and playing in a variety of concerts including most recently, a very successful VE80 community event.Jenny Newman – In appreciation of your long service playing the organ in St Maughans and beyond, playing in over 70 churches, and wherever you have been called to do so, for over 50 years. You have church music to your fingertips and have done so much for ecumenism, making friends as you played. For sharing your joy of music with so many and for playing at regular services, weddings, concerts and many other events.Selwyn Morgan – In appreciation of your long service as an outstanding organist in St Pauls for over 30 years, for being their choirmaster nurturing the talents of the choir and helping them to flourish, for being the accompanist for the Deanery choir and for dedicating so much of your life to church music over the years.Iris Tunley – In appreciation of your long service as an outstanding organist in St Davids for over 30 years, playing regularly for Sunday services, leading choir practice, organising many fund-raising events and for your constant faithfulness and generosity of time over the years.Thelma Cantelo - In appreciation of your long service playing the organ in Llantrisant or Tredunnock every Sunday, playing with joy and offering a huge variety of hymns, for enhancing and supporting congregations in their worship through faithfully sharing your gifts for the glory of God.
