Text block 1

A familiar face is bidding farewell to the diocese to take up a full-time role helping others explore their calling.Revd Canon Becca Stevens is currently Ministry Area Leader for Newport North West and Director of Ordinands, but she will be leaving at the end of the year to become full-time Advisor for Ordinands and Vocations with the Diocese of Bristol.Speaking about her move, Becca said: “It is with some sadness that I will be leaving Newport North West Ministry Area and Monmouth Diocese at the end of December.“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as MAL serving the ministry area and working alongside the wonderful people here to show Christ’s love for the world.“I have also felt fulfilled helping to develop a new vocations process for those exploring vocation to ordained ministry within the Church. It has been a privilege to journey alongside those who are listening intently to the call of God in their lives and to see people commit themselves to lay, diaconal and priestly life.“However, God has placed the call on my heart to walk alongside those in the vocations process in a deeper way. Through working alongside my spiritual director and listening to wise friends it feels right to take this step to become a full time Advisor for Ordinands and Vocations (DDO) in Bristol Diocese.“Recognising the complex needs of church and society in the modern world is of vital significance for those who are exploring vocation, and shaping this kind of ministry as Advisor for Ordinands and Vocations (DDO) fills me with joy and hope.“I look forward to praying with and walking alongside all those exploring, discerning, and following God’s call.“Please do pray for me as I take up this role in January. I will miss you all.”Revd Becca was ordained in Monmouth Diocese in 2014 and for the last seven years has been a Ministry Area Leader in Newport. She was appointed as Director of Vocations for Monmouth Diocese in 2020 after serving as Young Vocations Champion and then Assistant DDO. In 2022, she became an honorary canon of Newport Cathedral. The Ven Jonathan Williams, Archdeacon of Newport, said: "We send our congratulations to Becca but we will be very sorry to see her leave the Diocese of Monmouth. She modelled collaboration and creativity as she led the formation of the Newport North West Ministry Area and has shown a true pastoral heart for the people of the area, both those who were part of one of the churches and those in the wider community. She has also been at the heart of the discernment process in the Diocese, guiding and nurturing those exploring a vocation to ordained and licensed lay ministry. She has done it all with warmth and a sense of humour. We wish her every blessing in her new role and know that the Diocese of Bristol will be well served by her deep faith wise discernment."Revd Canon Rebecca will start her new role in January 2025.
