Ordinations 2025

A joyous service was held at Newport Cathedral on Saturday 28th June to ordain our new deacon and priests.
Friends and family filled the cathedral to support and celebrate with those who have been called into ministry in the Diocese of Monmouth.
During the service, The Rt Revd Cherry Vann ordained one deacon and two priests.
Deaconed - Ceri Ann Jones to serve in the Cwmbran Ministry Area
Priested - Revd Liane Miriam Chalmers to serve in the St Illtyd Ministry Area
Priested - Revd Marlwyn Lou Nixon to serve in the Cwmbran Ministry Area
The Ven Mark Preece, Archdeacon of Margam who had led the candidates on their ordination retreat, gave a warm and welcoming sermon.
During his sermon he used the word ‘special’ several times – and it really was a special occasion – special for the ordinands and their friends and family and special for the church.
He also talked about ‘foundations…..commitment and perseverance’.
He encouraged the ordinands to “be confident then in your (their) ministry as a Deacon and as Priests" and encouraged them, that "as a Deacon and as Priests in this diocese, you will, with your Bishop, fellow Deacons and Priests, be witnesses to our faith in the future!”

The service was live-streamed and is available to watch here
Please hold our ordinands in your prayers.
