Lay Worship Leaders Comissioned in Abergavenny

Twelve lay worship leaders were commissioned on September 14 to serve in Abergavenny in a service which celebrated the variety of worship in the MA. Two of them were also commissioned as Lay Pastoral Assistants.
As well as some of the choral elements usually seen before and during the Eucharist at St Mary’s Priory Church, the congregation of over 100 also experienced the Word part of the service led by members of the Open House team.
Open House takes place monthly at Holy Trinity and is designed for people who go to church as well as those who are starting on their Christian journey and is very much aimed at families. During Sunday’s commissioning, this part was led by the members of the Open House team who were being commissioned as lay worship leaders through reading the lessons, reflecting on them, exploring the meaning of Holy Cross Day and leading the congregation in a worship song and prayer. There was also a prayer activity where the congregation were given a paper Cross and encouraged to write a word which summed up what the Cross meant to them.
Ministry Area Leader Lea Ryder said: “It was a joyous occasion, tinged with a hint of sadness as we said farewell to Jez Piper, who had been with us for nine months and has just started at St Padarn’s to train for ordination. Jez will now be on placement in Chepstow and no doubt will prove to be as much of a blessing to them as he has been to us.”
