Archbishop Cherry preaches in Paris
Archbishop Cherry Vann was recently invited to preach in Paris at the Cathedral Church of the Holy Trinity, the cathedral presence of the Episcopal Church in Europe.
In her first time preaching in the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe, Archbishop Cherry was welcomed by a full house at the Holy Trinity, which is commonly referred to as the American Cathedral in Paris.
During her sermon on the fourth Sunday in Lent, she spoke of the need to “look beyond the surface…. to look with eyes enlightened by our faith in Jesus Christ, to discern what is good and true and right, not just in front of our eyes, but in the depths of our hearts.”
Following Jesus is “not holding rigidly to some rules and religious practice, but being willing to walk in the light, open to see new things as God reveals them to us, ready to travel new paths as Jesus walks ahead of us leading us into fresh understandings, excited to discover the freedom we find as we learn, day by day, to see ourselves and others as God sees us and to discern God’s heart and God’s ways for us and for God’s world.”

During her visit she met with the cathedral’s Rainbow Ministry, an LGBTQIA group that offers an inclusive service of compline at the cathedral.
