Diocese

‘Diocese’ refers to the geographical territory in which a bishop exercises oversight. The Church in Wales is divided into six dioceses each with its own cathedral in which is housed the cathedra (the bishop’s ‘chair’ or ‘throne’).

Prayer

Prayer sustains our human relationship with God and may involve words (formal or informal) or be silent. Prayer can involve adoration (‘I love you’), confession (‘sorry’), thanksgiving and supplication (‘please’).

CULTURE GUIDE

Being the Church We Want to Be

Our diocesan vision, Faith in Our Future, calls us to reach out into our communities through five branches of mission. While the vision is about doing, our Culture Guide is about being—how we live out our faith, how we treat one another, and how we are experienced by those we serve.

Launched in March 2024, the Culture Guide helps us reflect on the kind of Church we are becoming. It invites us to embody our values in every interaction, every act of service, and every moment of worship.

Our Core Values

Through wide consultation across the diocese, we identified six core values that shape our culture:

  • Love
  • Generosity
  • Joy
  • Humility
  • Courage
  • Integrity

These values guide both our public witness and our internal working life. They are not just aspirational—they are lived out daily in our churches, ministry areas, and diocesan office.

What We Hope People Experience

As people encounter us—whether in worship, community outreach, or conversation—we hope they experience:

  • Worship that is joyful, generous, and loving
  • Prayer and fellowship that support and encourage
  • Celebrations of life events and festivals filled with joy
  • Social action and loving service
  • A deep care for the environment
  • A warm welcome and generous hospitality
  • A celebration of difference and a commitment to belonging
  • Recognition and encouragement of everyone’s gifts and talents
