Bishop

‘Bishop’ comes from the Greek word for ‘overseer’. So a bishop is a senior Christian minister authorised to have oversight for God’s people. As well as duties given to deacons and priests, bishops confirm and ordain.

Diocese

‘Diocese’ refers to the geographical territory in which a bishop exercises oversight. The Church in Wales is divided into six dioceses each with its own cathedral in which is housed the cathedra (the bishop’s ‘chair’ or ‘throne’).

Schools and Families

Children, young people and families are very important to our diocese. This section provides relevant and specific support which we hope you find useful.

The Diocesan Director for Education oversees all the work in this area and advises the Bishop on all matters in relation to education, children, young people and families. The DDE advises and supports the governors, head teachers and staff in our church schools and liaises with officers from the local authorities, national government and with colleagues from other dioceses within the Church in Wales and other denominations.

The diocese also has a part-time Children, Youth and Family Ministry Advisor (CYFMA):

School in the Spotlight

Every half term we will be focusing on one of our schools. This gives us a chance to share projects or news and allows us to celebrate all the wonderful things going on across our diocese.

This half term the School in the Spotlight is St David's Church in Wales Primary School, Cardiff.
