The Church in Wales Provincial Safeguarding team provides comprehensive support, advice and guidance for Bishops, Clergy and lay people in churches, Parishes and Ministry Areas on all matters relating to the Church in Wales policy on safeguarding of children, young people and adults at risk.

In the Diocese of Monmouth our provincial safeguarding officer is Amelia Jarvis (currently on maternity leave) who will provide specialist support to colleagues in Parishes and Ministry Areas.

Who to contact if you have a concern

Specific safeguarding concerns or the need to talk about an allegation are managed by the Provincial Safeguarding Officer. These should be referred, in the first instance, to Fay Howe, Provincial Safeguarding Officer, based in South Wales.  Fay can be contacted on 07551 124219 or email

DBS Checks 

If your role within the Church involves work with Children (under 18) or adults at risk then you need to have completed a DBS check. These need to be renewed every 3-5 years in line with the Church in Wales Safeguarding Policy.

Safeguarding training is available to any member of the laity (eg safeguarding officers) within the church who may perform a role with children (under 18), or adults at risk. The training forms part of the Church in Wales’ continued commitment to a safe church.
