Lay Ministry Training – Pastoral Assistant/LEM course*
Sat 6 April, 9.00 am - 4.00 pm
Pastoral training within Monmouth Diocese is centrally coordinated, through the Diocesan Office. Although all training is available centrally, local delivery is possible; using training materials provided by the Diocesan training team, with or without Diocesan trainer support. Please discuss with Revd John Collier or Jayne Collier if you would like to explore local delivery.
Please note that courses marked * are intended to equip laity to undertake pastoral care in a variety of contexts and so must have local discernment. Evidence of this requires ALL of the following documents:
• A copy of a PCC minute in support of the application
• A written recommendation from the Ministry Area Leader
• A current clear DBS certificate
Lay Eucharistic Minister training will contain 2 elements of training in addition to the Foundation Course. The first of these covers the theology of the eucharist and the practicalities of administering communion by extension to the sick and housebound in homes, residential accommodation and hospitals. It would also be appropriate for chalice assistants. The second element covers the taking of services of communion by extension in church.
Courses are supported by an ‘apprenticeship’ with the participant working in their ministry area alongside priests and experienced lay ministers and pastoral visitors.
There is a final session prior to the issue of certificates of completion of training or licensing of participants who have successfully completed all training and apprenticeship experiences.
Application forms should be fully completed and sent to the Diocesan Office, 64 Caerau Road, Newport NP20 4HJ
