Lay Ministry Training – Foundation Course*
Wed 20 February, 6.00 pm - 8.30 pm
Pastoral training within Monmouth Diocese is centrally coordinated, through the Diocesan Office. Although all training is available centrally, local delivery is possible; using training materials provided by the Diocesan training team, with or without Diocesan trainer support. Please discuss with Revd John Collier or Jayne Collier if you would like to explore local delivery.
The Foundation Course can be delivered over 1 day, or three 2-hour evening sessions. Both formats are included in the Diocesan programme. This course covers the importance and theological basis for pastoral care, safeguarding and health and safety, confidentiality and practical considerations, as well as an introduction to listening skills. It forms the basis for all pastoral care training.
Please note that courses marked * are intended to equip laity to undertake pastoral care in a variety of contexts and so must have local discernment. Evidence of this requires ALL of the following documents:
• A copy of a PCC minute in support of the application
• A written recommendation from the Ministry Area Leader •
A current clear DBS certificate
Courses are supported by an ‘apprenticeship’ with the participant working in their ministry area alongside priests and experienced lay ministers and pastoral visitors.
There is a final session prior to the issue of certificates of completion of training or licensing of participants who have successfully completed all training and apprenticeship experiences.
Application forms should be fully completed and sent to the Diocesan Office, 64 Caerau Road, Newport NP20 4HJ
