The Bishop’s Staff Team (BST) is the diocesan leadership team. Together and individually, its members provide strategic, spiritual, and operational leadership to support the life and mission of the Church across the Diocese of Monmouth.Rooted in prayer and shaped by our diocesan values of love, generosity, joy, humility, courage, and integrity, the team works to ensure that our shared life reflects the vision and culture we are called to embody.Our Role and PurposeThe Bishop’s Staff Team exists to:Root our leadership in prayer and discernment Ensuring our decisions and direction flow from our shared relationship with God and our calling to serve Christ’s Church.Lead and monitor diocesan vision and strategy Shaping, implementing, and regularly reviewing the diocesan vision in collaboration with the Standing Committee, DBF, and diocesan networks.Strengthen governance and finance Identifying areas of need or opportunity—particularly where additional support or intervention may be required—and bringing proposals to the DBF for discussion and decision.Drive clergy recruitment, deployment, and wellbeing Monitoring vacancies, supporting Ministry Areas, and ensuring clergy and lay wellbeing is prioritised and resourced.Provide oversight of diocesan operations Offering strategic direction to diocesan staff and teams, ensuring alignment with our vision, values, and priorities.Model collaborative and accountable leadership Working as a team that values trust, transparency, and mutual accountability, enabling others to flourish in their roles.Ensure effective communication and engagement Promoting clear, timely, and two-way communication across the diocese, and listening well to feedback from clergy and laity.Shape and steward diocesan culture Embedding our values in how we lead, relate, and make decisions, and attending to the health of our shared diocesan life.Respond to emerging needs and opportunities Acting as a responsive and agile leadership body, able to address challenges and seize opportunities for growth and renewal.MembershipThe Bishop’s Staff Team is made up of senior leaders who bring a range of pastoral, strategic, and theological expertise:The Bishop of MonmouthThe Archdeacon of Monmouth – also Director of Social ResponsibilityThe Archdeacon of Newport – also Director of MinistryThe Archdeacon of the Gwent Valleys – also Director of EvangelismThe Dean of Newport CathedralThe Diocesan SecretaryTogether, they work collaboratively to support the whole diocese in living out its calling with faith, hope, and love.
