This year's Diocesan Lent Appeal has been launched with a message from Bishop Cherry.Lent invites us once again to turn our hearts and minds towards God’s faithfulness in his dealings with us and to consider how we might best respond through being faithful to God and God’s purposes. It is a season that calls us not only to prayer and reflection, but to prayer and reflection which shape our action; the kind of action that reveals the compassion and justice that is at the very heart of the gospel. Across our diocese, ministry areas are already responding to real human need with creativity, courage, and deep faithfulness. Yet the challenges faced by many in our communities continue to grow. As followers of Jesus, we cannot and must not look away. Social responsibility is not an optional extra for Christians; it is a core expression of our discipleship. Jesus consistently aligned himself with the vulnerable, the overlooked, and the struggling and he calls us to do the same. This year’s Lent Appeal will contribute to the diocesan fund dedicated to supporting social action projects in our ministry areas. Your generosity will enable local churches, including your own, to offer practical help, hope, and dignity to those who need it most. Every gift, large or small, becomes part of a shared commitment to build communities shaped by compassion, justice, and love.I encourage you to give prayerfully and joyfully, trusting that God will multiply our efforts for the flourishing of all. May this Lent deepen our faith, strengthen our resolve, and draw us ever closer to the One who came that all might have life in abundance. Bishop Cherry
