What a wonderful morning at our Diocesan Celebration of Pentecost!More than 200 people filled St Mary’s Church, Abergavenny for a morning of worship and fellowship - fuelled by lots of tea and cake!Nearly every ministry area was represented as families came together to enjoy a service filled with singing, crafts and story-telling.Based around the title “Sharing Our Story”, the service also marked the re-launch of the Diocesan Instagram page, which Ven Jonathan Williams commented on in his sermon.Archdeacon Jonathan explained that he had been reflecting on “stories, encounters and sharing faith” as he plans to retire next month. In his sermon, he talked about the importance of stories, and the importance of us sharing our story of faith. He said: “As a Diocese we are going big on Instagram. We are getting stories out about what we are doing, what we are about. More importantly, people from across our churches will be telling their story.”He encouraged us, “….that through your telling of the story, others may come and find that they too are part of the great story of the love of God shown in Jesus.”During the service we were blessed with some wonderfully uplifting music from pupils of Llanfoist Primary School whose beautiful singing opened and closed our worship, and also the worship band.In celebration of Pentecost, the service included an anointing for personal renewal. Bishop Cherry invited those in attendance to receive the oil of chrism on their foreheads and a blessing:‘By this anointing may you be filled anew with God’s Holy Spirit and know yourself to be a precious child of God chosen and called in Christ.’At the conclusion, the Bishop prayed that the Holy Spirit would ignite us with holy fire to give us strength, revive us through love, and renew the earth. It was a wonderful way to celebrate our life as a church family and welcome others! You can read the full sermon here

To celebrate “Sharing Our Story”, we have also introduced a series of faith testimonies from across our diocese. Over the next 12 weeks, people will be sharing their stories – how they came to faith and what faith means to them. Bishop Cherry is the first to share her testimony and you can read it here
