Celebration of Lay Ministry

lay ministry1

On Sunday 4 October, around 180 Lay Ministers from around the Diocese of Monmouth, and their friends and family gathered at Newport Cathedral for an uplifting and moving celebration of Lay Ministry in the Diocese.

Revd John Collier was licensed as Chaplain to Lay Ministries during the service by Bishop Richard Pain.

Bishop Richard reaffirmed the ministry of all Lay Ministers, before preaching about how Jesus sent out the 72 to teach and preach to all places that he would be visiting.  He also spoke about how St Francis of Assisi was a lay minister for many years before being ordained, and encouraged Lay Ministers to follow his example of spending time with God in quiet reflection in order to carry out ministry fully and completely.
